Steganography : Hide file in images

Hey guys, hope you all are doing well,I would like to welcome all of you to the very first tutorial so today we will be learning about Stenography, so before getting started I would like to tell you about what this term actually means.
Formal Definition :-
Steganography (ⁱ/ˌstɛɡ.əˈnɒɡ.rə.fi/, STEG-ə-NOG-rəfee) is the practice of concealing a file, message, image, or video within another file, message, image, or video. The word steganography combines the Greek words steganos (στεγανός), meaning "covered, concealed, or protected", and graphein (γράφειν) meaning "writing".
Enough of the typical definition let's break it down in layman language. So it's basically a way of concealing a file in another file,sounds lame? just imagine hiding your passwords (PDF) in an image of an apple it's right there all of your private information open but nobody knows how to access it, that's high art isn't it?Enough talk let's get started with how to do it.
Requirements  :-
Command prompt, File you want to hide,Container file.
Steps:-
1. Lets say I have a file called "pdf.pdf" with some valuable information in it and I want to hide it inside an image called "index.jpg"

2. Open up your command prompt and change directory using command cd Desktop ( I have stored both the files on desktop that's why Desktop).
3.Compress the pdf.pdf by using WinRar,Winzip etc.

4.Something like this and then you'll have a pdf.rar file

         

















5.Now you have to type a command in command prompt namely :-
copy /b [the_image]  + [rar_file_to_hide] [image_result_name]
e.g : copy /b index.jpg + pdf.rar  secret.jpg
Let's see this in action?
So once you are done you'll have something like this

Notice that new copy of secret.jpg
Yes you guessed it right it's where your pdf is stored if you open it you can't tell the difference it's just another image.

SEE told you nobody can tell the difference.
And that's how you store the pdf in an image

Now how to retrieve that pdf?
6. Change the file extension from secret.jpg to secret.rar and just open it using your WinRar application and your file is there.

After changing the extension to .rar the file will look like this

Once you open it VIOLA! your file is right there.

Edit 1: (.pdf) is the best file you can use to hide the information with and you can use anything even (.mp4) as container! (.txt) needs algorithms to extract meta data so if you plan to use (.txt) make sure you do your homework!

Next step we will use the command prompt to join this two file.

copy /b [the_image] + [rar_file_to_hide] [image_result_name]
